Mallard Lakes Home Featured in The Sunday Advocate

With million-dollar homes on sprawling lots, Mallard Lakes is a “neighborhood of mansions.” Some of our city’s largest and finest homes are inside the gates at Mallard Lakes, located off Hoo-Shoo-Too Road in the southeastern part of East Baton Rouge Parish. The home at 21717 Turkey Creek presents a great opportunity for the right buyer to enter a very exclusive group of homeowners.

And if you can believe it, this 6,300-square-foot 6-bedroom mansion situated on 4.62 manicured acres is actually not one of the largest homes in Mallard Lakes (there are 52 lots in the development, all four acres and larger). But this home has been totally renovated and just about everything in the house is brand new.

The high-tech home is fully automated, allowing the homeowner to leverage a smart phone or tablet to control security cameras, lights, doors and Nest thermostats from anywhere on the planet. Apple TVs and a Sonos Hi Fi wireless sound system are also included.

Driving down Turkey Creek, you notice a family of Canadian geese in a half-acre pond in front of the tall whitewashed brick and stucco home in the distance. A brick-edged driveway circles in front and around back to the 3-car garage. Prepare to catch your breath when you step inside, where ceilings in the foyer and living room soar to 24 feet.

To the right, a formal dining room is floored in white Carrera marble and has windows that offer views of the geese gliding across the front pond. A butler’s bar and walk-in pantry are located along the way to the kitchen, which is outfitted in new stainless commercial grade appliances including SubZero and Dacor. The counters and a 10 x 7 island are topped by massive 12cm granite slabs with waterfall edges.

A home office floored in antique pine is located behind a brick accent wall in the foyer. Ahead is the living room, a massive space with huge windows crowned by transoms. A stacked stone double-sided fireplace goes all the way up to the ceiling, making a strong statement in this elegant living room.

The home is large and impressive, yet manages to remain warm and inviting. There’s a sizeable amount of interior brick in accent walls and arched entryways into and out of the living room. Much of the flooring on the first floor is porcelain tile that resembles wood. It’s a durable and low-maintenance floor that stretches into the keeping room, breakfast room, kitchen and a nearby sitting room. The keeping room shares the living room’s fireplace and has its own stacked stone surround.

The master suite is upstairs in the main house and has its own private balcony overlooking the estate. The 32 x 18 master bedroom has a sitting area with a double-sided fireplace shared by the master bath. This elegant bath is huge, with a massive whirlpool tub, a frameless glass shower, travertine vanities with custom mirrors and a makeup desk.

There is only one master closet, but it is more like a closet “room” with a central dresser and a set of circular stairs up to a private bonus/media/crafts room. Two other bedrooms connected by a Hollywood bath are also on the second floor. The second-floor balcony that crosses over the living room has tall iron railings for extra security.

A separate second floor area over the garage could be a mother-in-law suite with a living room, a bedroom, a full bath with a steam shower and great balcony views of the property. Finally, the home’s large laundry, a central vacuum system, a powder room and the exit to the garage are located on a hallway behind the kitchen.
